1219 Flat

Creating a tropical retreat in the west side of San José

The brand new apartment and the concept

A brand new apartment not always feels cozy enough to start a new life, and that's the reason why I was called to help A and G with their new place.

Even though the finishes of the apartment were nice, the magic was missing. And of course, this was happening because there wasn't yet a design concept guiding the decisions, creating the mood.

So, as always, the first thing was to create this concept and here, the couple gave me a hint: "Our favourite place is the Caribbean... we want this place to feel fresh, yet mystical... just as the beach and the jungle..." and with this in mind, after watching their smiling faces and the white canvas in front of me, I started my creative process to make this space a real home.

Setting the mood

Atmosphere is created with the understanding of the relationships of the design elements and their positioning in the space to create meaning... to make sense, according to the concept.

The Caribbean atmosphere of this flat was created through a color palette that included shades of dark green, turquoise, light greys, black, and gold in dialogue with materials such as wood, concrete, terrazzo and different fabrics.
